Student nominations sought for outdoor leadership retreat
The UW-Eau Claire Environmental Adventure Center is sponsoring a free outdoor leadership retreat for UW-Eau Claire students June 11-15 at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo. Faculty and staff are invited to nominate freshman or sophomore students with experience in outdoor activities such as canoeing, white water rafting, backpacking, rock climbing or others. To submit a nomination, email the student's name and phone number along with a short paragraph about his or her qualifications to Al Wiberg at wibergad@uwec.edu by April 6. Spring/summer steam, electrical outages announced
This summer's planned electrical outage will occur on June 9. The outage will last for approximately eight hours beginning at 7 a.m. The following buildings will be affected: Haas Fine Arts Center, Human Sciences and Services Building, Maintenance and Central Stores Building and the Heating Plant. All of the affected buildings have emergency generator power except the Maintenance and Central Stores Building.
These annually-occurring utility outages allow for preventive maintenance and repairs that help prevent unplanned emergency outages due to breakdowns. For more information, contact Terry Classen at classetl@uwec.edu or 715-836-5278.

Deadline extended to Feb. 27 for Provost's Honors Symposium nominations
Now in its second year, the Provost's Honors Symposium for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity gives selected students from across the university a venue in which to present their significant research, scholarship and creative projects to the university community. The symposium will be held from 1-5:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Schneider Hall. Departments and faculty members are invited to complete the nomination form to recommend top-notch student work. The nomination deadline is Feb. 27.The University Honors Council, in consultation with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and with nominating faculty and departments, will serve as the selection committee.
