Electrical outage planned for Aug. 3

An electrical outage is planned from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. The following buildings will be without electricity during that time: Schofield Hall, Hibbard Hall, Davies Student Center, Zorn Arena, Brewer Hall and Centennial Hall. Emergency generators will run in all of the buildings except Centennial Hall during the outage for loads that are connected to emergency power. Air conditioning will not be in operation during the outage.

Open forums for dean of students finalists

The search committee for the position of UW-Eau Claire dean of students has scheduled open forums for each candidate. At each session, the candidate will make a 15-20 minute presentation followed by time for questions and interaction with the candidate by faculty, staff and students.
The finalists and the dates, times and locations of their open forums are as follows:
  • Thursday, Aug. 1: Joe Abhold, 1-2 p.m., Ho-Chunk Room, Davies Center.
  • Friday, Aug. 2: Phil Covington,1-2 p.m., Ho-Chunk Room, Davies Center.
  • Monday, Aug. 5: Mark Rameker, 1-2 p.m., Ho-Chunk Room, Davies Center.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 6: Gayle Spencer, 1-2 p.m., Menomonie Room, Davies Center.

A survey for faculty/staff/student feedback will be distributed at each forum.

Condolences

Condolences to Maria Bergevin, Services for Students with Disabilities, and her family on the death of her husband, Dr. Chuck Tomkovick, UW-Eau Claire professor emeritus of marketing, who passed away July 25. Q&A sessions set for director of Human Resources finalists

Interviews have been scheduled July 22-26 for director of Human Resources finalists at UW-Eau Claire. Question-and-answer sessions with each finalist have been scheduled for (1) faculty, academic staff and student leaders; (2) Classified Staff Council and classified staff; and (3) deans, directors and department chairs. Flags to be flown at half-staff June 29

Effective at sunrise June 29, Gov. Walker has directed that federal and state flags be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the state of Wisconson until sunset that day. This will be done as a mark of respect for Lance Cpl. Merlin Raye Allen of the U.S. Marine Corps who lost his life while serving his country during the Vietnam War. More information.

Farewell reception for Interim Chancellor Bousquet

Bousquet
UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students are invited to a farewell reception for Interim Chancellor Gilles Bousquet from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the Dakota Ballroom of Davies Center. A program will begin at 3:30 p.m., and refreshments will be served. Dr. Bousquet has served as UW-Eau Claire's interim chancellor since July 2012 and will be returning to Madison at the end of June.

Flags to be flown at half-staff May 15

The president of the United States and the governor of Wisconsin have proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 12-18 as Police Week. As a mark of respect for peace officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, the flag of the United States and the flag of the state of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the state beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset May 15. Furthermore, the governor of Wisconsin has authorized any jurisdiction of the state to fly the flag of the United States and the flag of the state of Wisconsin at half-staff on any day during Police Week for the purpose of honoring, in a public ceremony, peace officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Reception to honor retiring employees, those reaching career milestones



UW-Eau Claire's Service Recognition and Retirement Reception will be held from 3-5 p.m. May 9 in the Ojibwe Ballroom of Davies Center. Retiring employees and those celebrating the anniversary of their "milestone" years of service will be honored. The event is open to all faculty and staff. Guaranteed faculty/staff parking information

Application information for
2013-14 guaranteed faculty/staff (G) parking permits has been distributed by email to all employees. The G permit application form can be accessed through the Parking and Transportation Services website. Employees who currently have G permits must submit new applications. Notification of approval or denial will be sent to each applicant's UW-Eau Claire email address. Questions about the G permit application process should be addressed to Gparking@uwec.edu. The priority application deadline is Friday, May 10.

Open forums for finalists for director of Center for Alcohol Studies and Education and Off-Campus Student Life

Finalists for the position of director of the Center for Alcohol Studies and Education and Off-Campus Student Life will be interviewed on campus from May 14-16.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the finalists' open forums, where they will address the following topic: "If you had to build an off-campus student program from scratch, what would be the key elements that you would need for the development of such a program?"
