Flags to be flown at half-staff Oct. 1
As directed by Gov. Scott Walker, the flag of the United States and the flag of the state of Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the state of Wisconsin beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset Oct. 1, 2011. This will be done as a mark of respect for U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Garrick L. Eppinger Jr. of the U.S. Army Reserve, who lost his life while serving his country during Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan. More information.

Putnam Drive to close morning of Sept. 27
Putnam Drive on the UW-Eau Claire campus will be closed from 6-9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, between the Nursing Building parking lot entrance and the wooden bridge and stairway leading to and from upper campus. The closure is a safety precaution during removal of a cooling tower from the roof of the Nursing Building. Students, faculty and staff are asked to use the Nursing Building's front entrance during the closure.
