Faculty lecture and book signing set for Sept. 27

McIntyre Library faculty member Dr. Janice Bogstad along with Philip Kaveny and Richard West will discuss and sign copies of the book "Picturing Tolkien: Essays on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Film Trilogy" from 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Old Library 1142. Bogstad and Kaveny edited the book, and West was one of the contributing authors. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event. In addition, the University Bookstore will sell the book at a $7 discount specifically for the event. More information.

UWA fall gathering set for Sept. 26

The University Women's Association invites all UW-Eau Claire women faculty and staff (or partners of faculty/staff) to a "Sandwich UWA into your Day" event from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Hibbard Penthouse. The event will feature UWA information, a light meal and dancing by UW-Eau Claire alumna Ganna Kotenko and her young students. More information about the event is available online.

Brown bag presentation to address work with student veterans

Faculty and staff are invited to a brown bag presentation titled "Best Practices for Working with Student Veterans" from
12:10-12:50 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Old Library 1142. Faculty members Dr. Kim Pierson, physics and astronomy, and Dr. Jeremy Hein, sociology, will discuss the unique challenges student veterans may face while transitioning from the military to the classroom. Flags to be flown at half-staff Sept. 19

As directed by Gov. Scott Walker, the flag of the United States and the flag of the state of Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the state of Wisconsin beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset Monday, Sept. 19, 2011. This will be done as a mark of respect for U.S. Army Sgt. Chester G. Stoda of Black River Falls, who lost his life while serving his country supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. More information.
