Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program information available online
The Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program is a supplemental retirement savings program regulated by Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code. It is available to state (including UW System) employees, as well as employees of local governments and school districts in Wisconsin that have elected to offer the WDC. The program provides eligible employees with the opportunity to invest a portion of their annual earnings on a before- or after-tax basis to supplement retirement income.
This year National Save for Retirement Week was Oct. 21-27. The observance was dedicated to helping people understand the importance of meeting retirement objectives by contributing regularly and investing for the long term.

LTS to offer free portrait sessions for faculty and staff
The photography unit of UW-Eau Claire Learning and Technology Services is offering free portrait sessions for faculty and staff from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 7-8 in Room 59 on the lower level of Schofield Hall. The photos may be used for faculty and staff profile pages, department websites, university news releases, etc. Those wishing to have a current headshot taken may stop in anytime during one of the open studio sessions. UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff are invited to be listed in the university's online Experts Directory, a listing of faculty and staff experts who can comment to the news media on a variety of topics and issues and who may be available to speak to service and professional groups.
The goal is to offer a more extensive list of topics and a wider representation of UW-Eau Claire's faculty/staff expertise in the Experts Directory. Flags flown at half-staff Oct. 16
As directed by President Obama, the flag of the United States will be flown at half-staff Oct. 16 at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the United States. This will be done as a mark of respect for the memory of U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, who died Oct. 14. More information.

McIntyre Library offers voter registration through Oct. 17
Individuals who must register to vote before the November election may register at McIntyre Library until Oct. 17. After Oct. 17, Wisconsin state law requires that voters register at their appropriate municipal clerk's office. Individuals who will vote in the city of Eau Claire, the town of Washington or the town of Union can register at McIntyre Library during the following times:
- Friday, Oct. 12, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 14, 12:30 p.m.-midnight
- Monday, Oct. 15, 8:30 a.m.-midnight
- Tuesday, Oct. 16, 8:30 a.m.-midnight
- Wednesday, Oct. 17, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. (last day to register on campus!)

As directed by Gov. Scott Walker, flags will be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the state of Wisconsin on Oct. 14. This will be done as a mark of respect for 2nd Lt. James A. Des Jardins of the U.S. who lost his life while serving his country during World War II. More information.
Register YOUR info before Oct. 18 emergency notification system test
UW-Eau Claire will conduct a campuswide test of its emergency notification system between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
The test will include the following notification methods:
UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students who would like to register cell phone numbers or non-university email addresses in the emergency notification system are encouraged to do so before the campuswide test. Follow the 'learn more" link on the Emergency Information Web page for information about how to do so.
- Text message to cell phones that have been registered in e2Campus, UW-Eau Claire’s emergency notification system.
- Pop-up message on all university-owned computers, including those in offices, labs and classrooms.
- Email to all students, faculty and staff.
- Announcement on the UW-Eau Claire home page.
The test will help university officials determine how an alert will impact the campus and communication infrastructure. Following the test, faculty, staff and students will be asked to complete a brief Web survey to provide feedback regarding the emergency notification system.
